FAQs

General info:

  • High-res digital JPEG images are included with every session. I do not sell prints. Every photo I send to you will be fully edited and yours to keep. You can print your photos anywhere. A link to an online gallery where you can view and download your images will be emailed to you after your session.
  • Family Portraits: In 2019, I will only be offering 30-minute mini sessions on select dates and times at predetermined locations. I will post available sessions and a sign up form on my website. I will no longer be offering one-hour personalized sessions.
  • All sessions must take place within Hamilton County (OH), Newport (KY), or Covington (KY). For sessions in the surrounding communities, a $10 travel fee will apply.

How (or when) should I book a session with you?

Email is my preferred method of communication. (You can email me using this contact form.) However, you can call, text, or message me on Facebook.

If you’d like to schedule a newborn session, contact me roughly 1-2 months before your due date. I only schedule about two newborn sessions per month so you’ll want to get on my schedule in advance. Once your baby is born, notify me as soon as possible, and we’ll set up the exact date and time of your booking then. I like to come when the baby is 7-14 days old. However, you can book a newborn session anytime during your baby’s first three months. (After that, I’d recommend booking a family mini session.)

Mini sessions are offered one Saturday each month. You’ll need to sign up using the scheduling form on my website, however feel free to contact me if you have any questions! Sessions are usually booked 3-4 weeks in advance.

Do you have a studio or do any indoor photography?

One of the ways I keep my costs low is by not renting a studio. For newborn sessions, I come to your home with blankets and props to set up in whatever room has the most natural light. But for other sessions, I work exclusively outdoors.

What do we do if it rains?

If inclement weather is in the forecast, I will contact you the night before your session to discuss our options. The weather can be terribly unpredictable in Cincinnati, so I like to wait until there is a more accurate hourly forecast before making a decision. If it rains on the day of your mini session, I will work with you individually to reschedule your session. You will not lose your deposit.

Do you charge a cancelation or rescheduling fee?

I understand that children get sick and things come up at the last minute, but because I only offer a very limited number of sessions each month, I require a $25 non-refundable deposit. If you’re not able to attend your mini session for any reason, you will forfeit your deposit. However, I will work with you to see if it’s possible for us to reschedule! If you know a few days in advance that you won’t be able to attend your session, I may be able to find another family to replace you. If so, I’ll return your deposit or apply it towards your rescheduled session.

What should I wear?

Great question! When choosing an outfit for your session, here are some suggestions: You are investing in professional family portraits — so give yourself permission to take it up a notch. You don’t have to be super dressed up, but I would pick an outfit that is slightly nicer than your normal everyday attire. Jeans are perfectly fine, but wear nice, clean shoes or boots instead of gym sneakers, for example.

A lot of families like to coordinate colors and patterns, which is perfectly appropriate, but I don’t recommend dressing exactly alike. In my opinion, it’s more important that you like what you’re wearing and feel confident in your outfit versus choosing an outfit you don’t like as much just to match everyone else. (Hopefully that makes sense!)

Some basic guidelines: Wear simple colors and patterns, and avoid wearing all white or neon. Look for pieces made from fabric that won’t easily wrinkle. For kids, keep outfits simple and comfortable. For little girls, please cover diapers and underwear (with diaper covers, shorts, leggings, or tights).

If you’re having a hard time deciding what to wear, feel free to send me pictures. I’m happy to provide input and help you choose an outfit! Pinterest is also a great place to go for wardrobe inspiration.

Do you touch-up our photos during the editing process?

I do my best to remove things like pimples, scratches, and other temporary blemishes, but I try not to distort your appearance in any way. I don’t add makeup, brush out wrinkles, fix hair, or remove freckles. I want to celebrate how you look in a natural, authentic way. A quick note to parents with babies — they drool, as you know. Sometimes I’m able to remove drool stains, but not always. I suggest bringing a bib to be used in between takes.

How do we book a newborn session and what can we expect?

If you’d like to schedule a newborn session, contact me roughly 1-2 months before your due date. I only schedule about two newborn sessions per month so you’ll want to get on my schedule in advance. Call, email, or text me as soon as your baby is born to schedule the exact date and time of your session. Newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your own home and last roughly 90 minutes.

I will bring a few textured blankets, swaddling wraps, and a basket, but I strongly encourage you to provide a few special items of your own (e.g. favorite blankets, stuffed animals, baskets, etc.) that I can incorporate in your session to make your photos feel more personal. My personal preference is to photograph newborns with little to no clothing (either in a diaper, bare-bummed, or swaddled in a blanket) so that you can truly capture (and appreciate) the delicate details of their sweet little bodies. You’re welcome to dress your baby, but please limit wardrobe changes to 1 or 2 simple outfits.

During the session, I will work creatively with items you have in your home (and what I bring) and set up in whatever rooms have the most natural light. I will do 2-3 “sets” to get close-ups of your baby, then we’ll take a variety of posed family portraits and candid photos to capture the many ways you hold and love on your new baby. Siblings are welcome to join in for a few pictures (if you have other children)!

Your house does not need to be clean but we may need to move furniture to get the best light.

How should we pay you?

Please be prepared to pay me on the day of your session. My preferred methods of payment are: checks (made payable to Brooke Lehenbauer) or electronic payments made through Venmo. I’m happy to accept cash payments, but I can’t guarantee that I will have change on me, so please plan accordingly!

Can we bring props? // Do you provide any props?

You may bring props for your session. However, my personal preference is to only use props that have sentimental value to you (like a favorite book) or have a distinct purpose (like balloons for a one year old birthday session). I try to avoid using props just for the sake of using props, if that makes sense. That said, let me know if you have an idea in mind, and we can discuss the best way to execute it.

I do have a few things for people/kids to sit on, if requested — blankets, a small wooden stool, a white kids chair, a wooden crate, metal bistro chairs, etc. For newborn sessions, I bring a few textured blankets, swaddling wraps, and a basket.

Where should we print our photos?

I personally prefer Mpix.com. Prints are a little more expensive, but the quality is very good for the price. Many clients are satisfied with the photo printing services at Costco, Target, Shutterfly, and Walgreens.
